Thank you for your interest in a pet portrait commission.
I create realistic portraits of pets, using photos supplied by you.
I work in a realistic style and use mainly coloured pencils but also use acrylics or graphite depending on the look you are after.
I use only high-quality archival materials so you can be sure that your portrait will last for many years to come. I use artist-quality pencils with a high light-fastness rating and all mediums are worked on archival Fabriano 300gsm paper. I also supply a “Care of your portrait” leaflet with every portrait.
If you would like the piece to be matted (in preparation for framing), I provide this at no extra cost (though there may be an extra cost for unusual sizes- this can be discussed).
Please have a look at some of the animal portraits I have done by clicking here.
You can send me photos of your animals via email (preferred) or send me the original photos. Ideally you would have a number of photos of your pet (or pets) so that I can get a good idea of their look and personality, even if you have already decided that you would like the portrait to be based on a certain photo or posture.
Once I have the photo/s, and we have discussed the size and medium you would prefer, I will give you a no obligations quote.
If you decide to go ahead with the portrait, I will come up with some sketches of what I think would look good, and show them to you. Once the sketch has been given the go ahead, I will start on the portrait. I have set up a page which you can access below (by clicking on the fox) which you can log into and see sketches and progress pictures that I will post at regular intervals throughout the process, so you can see how its going and let me know if there’s anything you are not happy with , so I can make changes if need be as the painting progresses.
Once the portrait is finished, I will check with you that you are happy with it, then matt it and send it off to you. I offer a guarantee that if you are not happy with the portrait within 10 days of receiving it, you can return it to me in the same condition and you will get a full refund (minus shipping cost).
The exact cost of each piece varies due to differences in size and number of pets, generally the more larger/more complex pieces will be a bit more expensive. As I am just starting out in offering portraits, the general price range is $100-200 NZD, for realistic coloured pencil portraits, under A3 in size (not including shipping). Smaller portraits and portraits done in graphite cost less than this.
Please feel free to contact me with your exact requirements (and some photos if you have them) and I will give you a more specific quote.
If a custom pet portrait is not for you, I am hoping to have a series of prints of some of my work made in the next couple of months, and will be selling them online. Check back soon!
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
